Bloody Roots
Arrels Sagnants

Poems in Catalan

by Noèlia Díaz Vicedo

Translated by Noèlia Díaz Vicedo and Clive Boutle

ISBN 978 0 9957473 6 4
paperback 54 pages

Arrels Sagnants/Bloody Roots was written over a period of ten years from 2000 to 2010. The poems engage with the Western poetic tradition from a feminist perspective and explore the challenges a woman faces when she writes poetry.
The poems are written in the Valencian variety of the Catalan language. This bilingual collection is the author's first book.

Noèlia Díaz Vicedo was born in Alicante. She is a poet and translator, whose poetry and translations have been published in magazines in Spain, the UK and USA. She translated The Body’s Reason (Francis Boutle, 2014) by Maria-Mercè Marçal from Catalan with the poet Montserrat Abelló. She combines teaching with research on contemporary women's poetry and gender studies and is a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Westminster, London, and a Fellow at the Centre for the Study of Contemporary Women's Writing at the Institute of Modern Languages, University of London.
